Doris M. Dixon

Doris M. Dixon, 87, of 244 East Windsor Road died Wednesday morning at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Care Facility in Pittsfield. Born in Berlin, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1913, daughter of Walter A. and Mamie Lamphair Strait, she attended schools there and was valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Dixon was employed as an executive secretary to Benjamin and Daniel England at the former England Brothers department store. She also was employed by GE as a secretary, transferring to Myrtle Beach, Fla., where she worked for the company until retiring in 1972. She was a member of First Methodist Church and of PEO. She also served as a Girl Scout leader. Her first husband, Myron Whiting, died in 1964. Her husband, C. David Dixon, whom she married in 1965, died in 1991. She leaves three sons, Joseph Whiting of San Francisco, Paul A. Whiting of Lehigh, Fla., and David E. Whiting of Peru; two daughters, Carolyn A. Gourley and Sandra J. Duncan, both of Deerfield; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be conducted Friday, July 6, at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Steven Perry. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home.
