Thomas G. Simken

Thomas G. Simken, 83, of 11 Edgewood Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 14, 1918, son of George T. and Barbara Darms Simken, he was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in Lindenhurst, N.Y. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS New Orleans in Guam. He was employed as an aviation electronics technician at Grumman Aircraft Co. in Calverton, N.Y., for 36 years and retired in 1980. Following his retirement, he moved to Hinsdale. He enjoyed operating radio-controlled airplanes. He leaves his wife, the former Grace M. Dreher, whom he married Sept. 30, 1939; two daughters, Laurel Jean Simken of North Adams and Barbara Simken of Hinsdale; a son, Thomas M. Simken of Hinsdale; six grandsons and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Following cremation, burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hinsdale. A grandson, Robert Simken, died July 10, 1988. The BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton is in charge of arrangements.
