WILLIAM P. COOPER

William P. Cooper Jr., 51, of Gwenn Lane died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on June 2, 1949, son of Corine Bordeau Cooper and the late William P. Cooper Sr., he attended Williams High School and graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1969. He was employed by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and Pete's Motors Inc. in Great Barrington. He was also highway superintendent for the town of West Stockbridge. During the 1990s, he owned and operated Bill's Small Engine Repair, which he closed in 1997. At the time of his death, he was employed by Daniel's Auto Repair in Great Barrington. Mr. Cooper was a member of the West Stockbridge Fire Department and the Parks and Recreation Committee. He was active in Cub Scouts, the Stockbridge/West Stockbridge Kiwanis, and he was a 30-year member of the Glendale Fire Department, serving as foreman assistant and past foreman. He enjoyed car races at Lebanon Valley and fishing. Besides his mother of Great Barrington, he leaves his wife of 14 years, the former Tina Skorput, whom he married Sept. 27, 1986, in St. Patrick's Church in West Stockbridge; a son, William Paul Cooper at home, and a sister, Edie Carter of Oxnard, Calif. William P. Cooper Jr., 51, of Gwenn Lane died Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, 2000, at Berkshire Medical Center. Beloved husband of Tina, devoted father of Billy Paul, adored son of Corine, dear brother to Edie and her husband Ned, friend to all. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, conducted by the Rev. Esther Chapius, interim pastor, West Stockbridge Congregational Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 29, from 5 to 8 at the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home. Contributions in Mr. Cooper's memory may be made to the William Paul Cooper Trust Fund in care of the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
