Dorothy Brothers

Dorothy Alice Brothers, 90, of Ashland Park Apartments, 150 Ashland St., died Saturday at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since May 2000. Born in North Adams on March 1, 1911, daughter of Harry and Marion Arnold Atwell, she was educated in local schools, including Drury High School. She was employed by the former F.W. Woolworth Store and then by the former Sprague Electric Co. as an assembler, retiring in 1973. Mrs. Brothers was a member of First United Methodist Church and of its Afternoon Circle. She was also a member of the Mount Greylock Lodge of Odd Ladies, the Ashland Park Tenants Association and AARP. Her husband, Lawrence Edward Brothers, whom she married March 18, 1933, died March 9, 1979. She leaves a daughter, Linda Bruso of Bennington, Vt.; a son, Lawrence E. Brothers Jr. of Pittsfield; a sister, Carol R. Busby of North Adams; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Robert Arnold Brothers, died Oct. 9, 1986. A private funeral for Dorothy Brothers will be held tomorrow, July 10, 2001 at 1:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, with the Rev. Raymond Shoup, pastor of First United Methodist Church, presiding. There will be no calling hours. Two sisters, Phyllis Strange and Charlotte Shoestock, and three brothers, Howard, Earl and Melvin Atwell also are deceased.
