F. William Trautwein

F. William Trautwein, 84, of 490 Williams St. died Saturday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. He and his family owned and operated the Heart of the Berkshires Motel from 1972 until selling it in 1990. Born in Arcola, N.J., on July 17, 1916, son of Charles and Hannah Wiesenhuetter Trautwein, he attended schools in Hackensack, N.J., and graduated from Hackensack High School. He moved to the Berkshires in 1972. Before operating the motel, Mr. Trautwein was employed by Huck Manufacturing Co. in Hackensack, where he was a developer and testman for the Brunswick automatic pinsetter machine for 10-pin bowling. He also spent a year in Australia and a year in Japan setting up a plant for the manufacture of the pinsetter. He enjoyed bowling and was an accomplished golfer, shooting consistently in the 70s. His wife, the former Karmen B. Korn, whom he married Oct. 25, 1942, died May 26, 1996. He leaves a son, William K. Trautwein of Pittsfield; and two brothers, Charles Trautwein of Bonsall, Calif., and George Trautwein of Titusville, Fla. The family will receive friends tomorrow beginning at 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. A graveside service will follow at noon at Pittsfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Carl K. Towley, chaplain at Berkshire Medical Center, officiating.
