Harold T. Buxton Jr.

Harold T. "Bucky" Buxton Jr., 77, of 33 Brunell Ave. died Saturday of heart failure at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He served on the Board of Health for 26 years. Mr. Buxton owned the former Lenox Hardware Store and the former Beartown Ski Area in New York state and recently retired from Mole and Mole Real Estate. Born in Haverhill on Nov. 1, 1923, son of Harold T. Buxton Sr. and Marion Webster Buxton, he was educated in Newburyport schools. He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston with a degree in engineering. A World War II Navy veteran, he served in Normandy, southern France and Okinawa. Mr. Buxton was employed as an engineer for Fairbanks Morse and as a salesman for the former Esso/ Standard Oil. He was a member of the Church on the Hill, where he served as a trustee and deacon. He was a former Boy Scout leader and a member of the Masonic Temple at St. John's Lodge in Newburyport. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. He and his wife, the former Edith H. Paul, were married Nov. 19, 1944. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, David Buxton of Lee and Richard Buxton of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and two granddaughters. A memorial service will be Thursday, July 12, at 10 at the Church on the Hill in Lenox. A private burial will be held in Salem, N.H. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church on the Hill or to the American Heart Association, both in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, which is in charge of arrangements.
