Clarence Decker

Clarence R. Decker, 83, of 290 East St. died Sunday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Housatonic on Dec. 22, 1917, son of Byron and Lydia Kinne Decker, he attended Housatonic grammar school and the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic-Pacific campaigns with the 104th Infantry from March 15, 1941, to Jan. 15, 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Decker was employed by the state Department of Public Works in Berkshire County, District 1, retiring in 1978 as a road foreman after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 893 and enjoyed gardening. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He and his wife, the former Barbara A. Abderhalden, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary July 8. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Conrad Decker and Larry R. Decker, both of Lenox, and David H. Decker of Lee; a sister, Lydia Decker of Lenox, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow morning at 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with the Rev. John McKinstry, a retired Congregational minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Ambulance Squad in care of the funeral home.
