Albert J. Sawyer

Albert J. Sawyer, 75, of 10 South Willow St. died Monday at North Adams Commons. Born in Adams on Feb. 13, 1926, son of Alfred and Rosana Lemieux Sawyer, he attended Adams schools. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 18th Ordnance Maintenance Company in the European theater. Mr. Sawyer was employed by Stanley's Lumber and, most recently, by the former Beloit Jones Corp. in Dalton for 23 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas and a member of the Adams Post 160 American Legion and the former Cartier Club. His former wife, Fredericka Hoczela, died Jan. 6, 1995. He leaves two sons, Frederick A. Sawyer of Savoy and Edward A. Sawyer of Adams; a daughter, Virginia Girard of Windsor Locks, Conn.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Bonaventure Moccia, C.P. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
