Francis C. Gofton

Francis C. Gofton, 86, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday at The Aristocrat in Naples. Born in Providence, R.I., on July 5, 1915, son of Frederick C. and Elizabeth Worthington Gofton, he received his undergraduate degree from Brown University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his master's degree from Harvard University. He moved from Pittsfield to Naples in 1976. He was a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Gofton was a retired professor from Berkshire Community College, where he could be seen driving his green scooter to and from the school. He was also employed by Thalheimer's Art Gallery in Naples. He was a member of the Town Players in Pittsfield, and an avid reader of history books. He leaves his wife, the former Kathleen E. Jones, whom he married June 25, 1966, in Philadelphia; two sons, Benjamin J. Gofton and David W. Gofton, both of Naples; two brothers, Edward Gofton of Warwick, R.I., and Albert Gofton of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and two granddaughters.
