George A. DeWitt

George A. DeWitt, 64, of 240 Francis Ave. died Sunday at home. Born in Pittsfield on July 18, 1936, son of the late George A. and Harriet E. Chadwell DeWitt, he attended local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He joined the Air Force in 1955 and was discharged as an airman first class in 1959. Mr. DeWitt owned his own car repair business in his younger years and was also employed by Haddad's and Kel's Auto as a detailer. He was most recently employed as a kitchen assistant for more than a year at Wendy's restaurant. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing. He leaves a son, Kent E. DeWitt of Pittsfield; two daughters, Kathy DeWitt-Allen and Jacqueline DeWitt, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, Donald K. DeWitt of Pittsfield and Robert DeWitt of Los Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Carol Martin of Long Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, and his former wife, Mae Ross Hunt of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his brothers, William DeWitt in 1970 and Leslie DeWitt in 1999, and his sister, Harriet Cicero, in 2000. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, which is handling arrangements.
