Michael L. Burnett

Michael L. Burnett, 56, sergeant first class, 86th Troop Command, Vermont Army National Guard, of Northfield, Vt., formerly of Adams, died July 4 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt., after a long illness. Born in Adams on March 21, 1945, son of Stella LeBeau Burnett and the late Elansford Burnett, he attended Adams schools. After graduating from high school, Mr. Burnett served in both the Air Force and in the Vermont Army National Guard at Camp Johnson, Winooski, Vt., first with the 172nd PSC and then with the 86th Troop Command. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and he processed troops out and back in through Fort Drum, N.Y., during Operation Desert Storm. Mr. Burnett was employed by Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and Barre, Vt. He was also employed by Bombardier in Barre and by HEB Manufacturing Co. Inc. in Chelsea, Vt. Besides his mother of Adams, he leaves his wife, the former Candis Hanson of Northfield; two sons, Shawn Burnett of Keene, N.H., and Brian Burnett of Barre; a stepdaughter, Kristen Brosnahan, and three grandchildren. At Mr. Burnett's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Interment of his ashes will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, Vt., at a date and time to be announced. Anyone who wishes is welcome to attend the cemetery service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society in your area. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our friends for their visits, prayers, cards, words of comfort, and their assistance during the past year. We appreciate it more than we could possibly express. Mr. Burnett was predeceased by his sister, Anita Jozefiak of Adams. He also leaves two nieces, Ellen Kelly of Pittsfield and Dr. Judy Jozefiak Leal of Carlisle, Pa.
