John Wampler Jr.

John H. Wampler Jr., 49, of Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Otis, died Tuesday at home from a heart attack. Born in New Bedford on Nov. 15, 1951, son of John H. and Barbara Bedford Wampler, he was a graduate of Farmington (Conn.) High School and attended Tunxis Community College and Eastern Connecticut State College. He was also a former resident of Hartford, Conn. He received his bachelor's degree from Westfield Sate College and his master's degree in contemporary American history from the University of Arkansas, where he also taught. Mr. Wampler was completing his doctorate degree at the time of his death. While attending Eastern Connecticut State College, he was involved in the music field as a drummer for the Dead Whale and Stove Boat Band and opened for the Three Dog Night band. He has performed with various bands, some including his wife and brothers, and he has several records, tapes and CDs to his credit. He married the former Katherine Hadden on July 7, 1973. Besides his parents of Pittsfield and his wife, he leaves two sons, Jason Wampler of Cincinnati and Matthew Wampler of Fayetteville; three brothers, William and Robert Wampler, both of Otis, and James Wampler of Plainville, Conn. His funeral will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., and a memorial service will be scheduled for later this year in Massachusetts. He will be dearly missed by the Wampler and Hadden families.
