Robert J. Formel

Robert J. Formel, 74, of Peachtree City, Ga., a native of Pittsfield, died Saturday at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 13, 1927, son of Fernando A. and Lillian Frances Smithson Formel, he received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Siena College. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Formel was employed by Emory Industries for more than 30 years, retiring as a regional sales manager. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul and the Optimist Club. He enjoyed golf, hunting, American history, and spending time with his family. His wife of 44 years, Patricia Formel, is deceased. He leaves a son, Scott P. Formel, and a daughter, Holly R. Formel, both of Peachtree City; a sister, Eugenie Philips of Pittsfield; three brothers, Dr. Paul Formel of Albany, N.Y., Philip Formel of Lenox and John Formel of Chicago, and a grandson. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, with Father Kevin Peek officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home,Peachtree City, with a prayer service to begin at 7:30 p.m. Those desiring may make donations to St. Vincent DePaul.
