Edna H. Best, 96

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Edna Hannah "Mammy" Best, 96, formerly of 35 Glassworks Road, Berkshire Village, died Sunday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield. She was the oldest resident of Lanesborough.

Born on Long Island, N.Y., on March 25, 1905, daughter of Joseph and Hannah Roughley Sukanek, she attended schools in Berkshire Village.

Mrs. Best was a communicant of North American Martyrs' Church and a member of its Rosary Society, and a member of the Lanesborough Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting.

Her husband, Earl W. Best, whom she married Aug. 4, 1923, died Dec. 13, 1960.

She leaves a daughter, Hannah Bondini Putnam of Lanesborough and Zephyrhills, Fla.; six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Earl W. Best Jr. of Southboro, died in 1995, and a daughter, Jean Best, died at the age of 2 in 1934.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be tomorrow, Wednesday, at 9:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at North American Martyrs' Church in Lanesborough celebrated by the Rev. John Smegal, pastor, and Deacon William G. Moesley of St. Charles' Church.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans' Memorial Fund of Berkshire Village in care of Berkshire Union Chapel, 191 Old State Road, Berkshire, MA 01237.
