Elsie Moynihan

Elsie Moynihan, 95, formerly of 296 Hancock Road, died Sunday night at Craneville Place in Dalton. Born in Pittsfield on May 22, 1906, daughter of David and Isabella MacDonald MacWhinnie, she attended the former Mercer Grammar and Commerce High schools. She was a veteran of World War II, serving as a communications specialist in the Women's Army Corps. She was discharged as a corporal after 2 1/2 years of service with the Army AirWays Command. Mrs. Moynihan was employed as a secretary at GE in the fan motor department. Moving to Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1946, she was employed as a secretary for 12 years at the University of Michigan Dental School. She and her husband retired and returned to the Berkshires in 1973. She participated in the cultural activities at the university while living in Ann Arbor. Her husband, James E. Moynihan, whom she married in 1946, died Nov. 5, 1987. She leaves a brother, Harry MacWhinnie of Lenox. She was predeceased by a brother, David MacWhinnie. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends tomorrow at the funeral home beginning at noon.
