John W. Frick

John W. Frick, 85, of Charlottesville, Va., formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday at the Colonnades Assisted Living complex in Charlottesville. Born in St. Cloud, Minn., on June 11, 1916, son of Lena Frick, he graduated from the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1939. He was employed by GE for 47 years, beginning with the test program in Schenectady, N.Y. He moved to Pittsfield in 1951 and held many managerial positions in the ordnance division, retiring in 1986. He moved to the Colonnades in 1998. Mr. Frick was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield and served as an usher. An accomplished watercolor artist, he was a member of the Pittsfield Art League and participated in art shows in Pittsfield, southern Vermont and Charlottesville. He also had paintings displayed at the former Springs Restaurant in New Ashford. An avid golfer, he held memberships at the Country Club of Pittsfield and at Wahconah Country Club. His wife, the former Blanche Gans, died in 1997. He leaves two sons, John W. Frick Jr. of Charlottesville and Robert Frick of West Bloomfield, Minn., and two grandsons. Mr. John W. Frick will be interred in the family plot in St. Cloud, Minn. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. HILL & WOOD FUNERAL SERVICE is in charge of arrangements.
