Ruth L. Torrey

Ruth L. Torrey, 84, of 144 East Windsor Road died yesterday at home. Born in Dalton on Nov. 17, 1916, daughter of Leon C. and Harriet Webster Furnald, she graduated from Dalton High School. Mrs. Torrey was employed by Crane & Co. in Dalton for more than 30 years as a paper sorter in the Fine Papers Division, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Peru Congregational Church and a member and past president of the Hinsdale Lions Club. She was a volunteer at the Peru Public Library for many years. She was also a member of the editorial committee of the Peruvian Bark newspaper. She enjoyed reading. Her husband, Robert W. Torrey, whom she married Nov. 16, 1946, died July 14, 1993. She leaves several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Peru Congregational Church, with the Rev. Patricia Gerry-Karajanes, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in North Cemetery in Peru. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton.
