Lester Thompson

Lester John Thompson, 88, of 38 Hosford Road, formerly of 19 Crandall St., Adams, died yesterday morning at home. Born in Plainville, Conn., on Feb. 16, 1913, son of Howard and Udel Busher Thompson, he attended schools in Connecticut. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as a machinist's mate third class until his honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Thompson was an owner of the former Wittig & Thompson Co., which specialized in air conditioning and refrigeration systems, from 1960 until he retired in 1975. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Adams. His wife, the former Agnes M. "Ma" McDonald, whom he married June 29, 1941, died Feb. 28, 1996. He leaves a son, Robert C. Thompson of Adams; two daughters, Elizabeth Thompson of Amherst and Margaret Bozek of Cheshire; two sisters, Marion Michaud and Florence Knox, both of Connecticut; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund through AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge of arrangements.
