Ferdinand Campana

Ferdinand Campana, 74, of 130 Morningview Drive died Sunday at home. Born in Curtina, Switzerland, on Oct. 9, 1926, son of Cesare and Amallia Campana Campana, he attended schools there, including a meat-cutting school. He served in the Swiss army and came to the United States in 1950. Mr. Campana was employed as a meat cutter for A&P Supermarkets for 20 years and by Wohrle's Foods for 12 years. He retired in 1988. A communicant of St. Francis' Church, he enjoyed bowling, skiing, boccie and camping. He and his wife, the former Shirley D. Matteson, would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary Nov. 28. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, James C. Campana of Clinton, N.Y., and Richard F. Campana and Robert J. Campana, both of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Mary P. Tierney of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Mark A. Mazzeo of New Lebanon, N.Y., and Michael J. Mazzeo of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Elvina Nohl of Rosa, Spain, Bice DeGiorgi of Porza-Tessin, Switzerland, and Ada Blainville of Cannes, France, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow at 11:45 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 at St. Francis Xavier Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton. Mr. Campana will be entombed in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshire, in care of the funeral home.
