Edward F. Lavelle

Edward F. Lavelle, 86, of 50-A Highview Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on May 20, 1915, son of Joseph E. and Laura M. Boyer Lavelle, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Lavelle was employed by Berkshire Woolen Co. for 27 years and as a lab technician at GE Plastics Division for 21 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and served on the Pittsfield School Committee, representing Ward 5, from 1950 to 1953. As a young man, he played semi-professional baseball, and he also played on several city leagues. His first wife, the former Evelyn Roy, is deceased. He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor Mullen; a son, Lawrence A. Lavelle of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Jane Ciosek of Middlesex, Vt.; two brothers, Charles W. Lavelle and Joseph M. Lavelle, both of Pittsfield, and two sisters, Ann Blake of Pittsfield and Mildred Shelsky of Springfield. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 9:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Evelyn Roy. He is also predeceased by two brothers, Richard Lavelle and Alfred Lavelle, and a sister, Constance Lavelle.
