Evelyn R. Davis

Evelyn R. Davis, 79, of Hurlbut Road died yesterday at home. Born in Queens, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1922, daughter of Norman and Ruth Townsen Dick, she graduated from Bayside High School in 1939. A homemaker, Mrs. Davis later became a nursery school teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Levittown, N.Y. She moved to Great Barrington in 1996 to live with her daughter, Barbara Walther. She was a member, deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Levittown, and a member of the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. She enjoyed gardening and cross-stitch embroidery. Her husband, Theodore Davis, whom she married Jan. 24, 1943, in Whitestone, N.Y., died in 1980. Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, Arthur Davis of Endicott, N.Y.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, at 2 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, N.Y., on Monday, July 30. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home on July 29.
