T. Franklin Jones

T. Franklin Jones, 93, formerly of 113 Benedict Road, died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had been a resident since 1997. Born in Cohoes, N.Y., on Sept. 9, 1907, son of Charles L. and Edith Rain Jones, he moved to Pittsfield in 1933. He had lived in the same apartment for 64 years until being admitted to the nursing home. During World War II, he served as precinct captain in the Civil Defense and organized a neighborhood fire brigade, building a special cart to house and carry all the equipment. Mr. Jones was employed as a salesman and purchasing agent at Western Mass. Supply for many years. He enjoyed gardening, model ship building, painting and photography. He had his own dark room supplies to develop and print his own pictures. His wife of 66 years, the former Muriel R. Bertrand, died in 1993. He leaves a daughter, J. Marjorie Haines of Hinsdale; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be tomorrow, Friday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Jeff Black officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be at DWYER FUNERAL HOME Friday morning, July 27, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berkshire County Association for Retarded Citizens in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME in his memory.
