Rev. Stanley Nazzaro

The Rev. Stanley John Nazzaro, 78, of 135 West Ave. died Sunday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where he had resided for several weeks. Born in New Haven, Conn., on May 25, 1923, son of Ralph and Caroline Esposito Nazzaro, he was ordained May 6, 1948, and his first Mass was celebrated May 9, 1948, at St. Bernadette's Church in New Haven. Nazzaro served for more than 50 years with the Hartford Archdiocese in Connecticut. He was assigned to many different parishes, including St. Bernard's in Rockville, Our Lady of Lourdes in Waterbury, St. Anthony's in Bristol, St. Peter's in Torrington, St. Mary's in Derby, St. Ann's in Hamden, and St. Monica's in Hartford. He celebrated his 50th anniversary in St. Michael's Church in New Haven, where he had been baptized. After his retirement, he resided in Great Barrington, helping out in several parishes throughout the Springfield Diocese as well as at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. He leaves his longtime friend and caregiver, Robert Pidskalny of Hamden, Conn. He was predeceased by his brother, Benjamin Nazzaro. A Vigil Service will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 2 until 5. Calling hours will also be on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 7 at MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Chapel St., New Haven, Conn. The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 3, at 9:45 from the Maresca & Sons Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 at St. Michael's Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Lawrence' Cemetery, West Haven.
