William Pellows

William Robert Pellows, 83, of 1101 West St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in North Adams on Jan. 12, 1918, son of Robert W. and Beatrice V. Hubbard Pellows, he attended North Adams schools. Mr. Pellows was employed by GE as a welder for several years, retiring in 1971 due to ill health. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a corporal in the Pacific. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and a charter member of IUE Local 255. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 68, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448, and the United Commercial Travelers. He was past commander of Chapter 15 of the Disabled American Veterans and of Post 75 of the Italian American Veterans. He enjoyed sports, especially hunting and fishing. His first wife, the former Margaret Papallo, died Nov. 21, 1987. He leaves his wife, the former Lucille Desabrais Burke, whom he married March 13, 1990; two daughters, Patricia P. Roy of Hinsdale and June A. Hughes of Nassau, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Kathleen F. Wesley of Beverly; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Paul Laflamme officiating. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
