Helen E. Ruane

Helen E. Ruane, 96, of 15 Sumner St. died Wednesday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on March 22, 1905, daughter of Thomas and Bridget Gibbons Ruane, she was a 1925 graduate of the former Searles High School. She also graduated from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1929. Miss Ruane was employed as a nurse at Fairview Hospital during the 1930s. She retired because of ill health and was a homemaker for her sisters for many years. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. She leaves a sister, Anne M. Ruane, with whom she resided. The funeral will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 6, at 11 in St. Peter's Church by the Rev. William H. Wallis, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME will be Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Peter's Church Ramp Fund or to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Miss Ruane was predeceased by two brothers, Edward in 2001 and John in 1979, and three sisters, Katherine in 1983, Mary in 1982, and Alice in 1965.
