Paul T. Kelley

Paul Taemer Kelley, 88, of 671 Curran Highway died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted July 25. He was an artist and expert mineral educator. Born in North Adams on Sept. 22, 1912, son of George A. and Josephine Colomb Kelley, he graduated from Drury High School in 1931. He attended Yale University in New Haven, Conn., until the Depression forced his withdrawal. Mr. Kelley worked at the former Arnold Print Works until World War II, then joined GE as a director of education, traveling throughout the United States to company plants. In the late 1950s, he returned to Arnold Print Works as a sketchmaker. In 1967, he joined General Cable Corp. as a product and packaging design engineer at the Williamstown and Pownal, Vt., plants. He retired in 1977. Mr. Kelley was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and assisted with its annual bazaars. He taught art and gave instruction on minerals at the Northern Berkshire YMCA, the Adams Art Association and summer youth programs. He was a past president and life member of the Northern Berkshire Mineral Club and gave lectures on art and minerals at club meetings, schools and churches. His first wife, the former Lillian Durant, died in 1955. He and his wife, the former Betty J. Stevens, celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary April 20. They were married in St. Anthony's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, George Taemer Kelley of North Adams. Another son, Paul Taemer Kelley Jr., died April 8, 1972. The funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 conducted by the Rev. Albert J. Dagnoli, CSS. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 8. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations are suggested to the St. Anthony Building Fund or to the Parkinson's Disease Association through the funeral home.
