Gladys Osgood

Gladys Osgood, 86, of Seekonk Crossroad died Sunday morning at home. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 9, 1915, daughter of Otto T. and Wilhelmina Anderson Nelson, she was a 1932 graduate of Mountain Lakes High School in New Jersey. She moved to Great Barrington in 1955 from Montville, N.J. She worked for Massachusetts Electric Co. and United Church of Christ, and retired from the former Taconic Lumber Co. in 1970. Prior to that, she was employed by Cannon Mills in New York City and worked for the war effort. Mrs. Osgood was a member of the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed outdoor activities, square dancing and traveling. She played bridge every week for more than 40 years. She was also active with the Girl Scouts and the Great Barrington Historical Society, and volunteered with the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association. Her husband, George R. Osgood, whom she married Nov. 11, 1939, died Sept. 17, 1999. She leaves two daughters, Marilyn Jean Osgood of Granville and Joanne Lee Sheron of Woodbury, Conn. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 10, at 10 at First Congregational Church by the Rev. Charles Van Ausdall, pastor. A private burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Contributions in Mrs. Osgood's memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, or to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
