Helen D. Arienti

Helen D. Arienti, 80, of 72 Oswald Ave. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 24, 1920, daughter of Lewis and Helen Wesley Wetzel, she attended schools in Philadelphia and in Pittsfield, and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1938. Mrs. Arienti was employed by General Electric Co. during the war years and later became a school crossing guard. She then became a teacher's aide at the former Mercer School and had a combined total of 17 years with the School Department. She was most recently employed by the former England Brothers Department Store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former volunteer in the Links Program. She also was a member of the Women's Christian Group and a volunteer with the American Red Cross and at the Christian Center. Her husband of 53 years, John J. Arienti, whom she married Dec. 2, 1942, died July 12, 1996. She leaves two sons, Richard L. Arienti of West Stockbridge and Robert P. Arienti of Pittsfield; a daughter, Arlene L. Jacoby of Dalton; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington, with the Rev. Dr. Roger A. Davis, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Center in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
