Benjamin Wilbur

Benjamin Wilbur, 91, of 9 Sunnyside Drive died yesterday at home. Born in Swanton, Vt., on Oct. 3, 1909, son of Herbert H. and Ellen Benson Wilbur, he traveled to different cities as a child, and graduated from high school in Greenfield. He also graduated from M.I.T. with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He has been a resident of Dalton for 24 years. He was first employed with General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., and moved to Pittsfield in 1959, where he worked in the ordnance department until retiring in 1970 after 29 years of service. He also taught physics and chemistry at Pittsfield High School for one year. He leaves his wife, the former Eldora Hatch, whom he married Aug. 1, 1937; two daughters, Ellen Wilbur of Dalton and Gene Pivero of Pittsfield; two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 for Mr. Benjamin Wilbur in BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Hospice of the Berkshires Inc., or the Berkshire Association for Retarded Citizens, both in care of the funeral home.
