Norma M. Gallese

Norma Mary Gallese, 96, of 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, a native and former longtime resident of North Adams, died Tuesday at home. Born in North Adams on June 27, 1905, daughter of Stephen A. and Clementina Gazzaniga Rosasco, she attended North Adams schools, including the former Mark Hopkins Elementary School and Drury High School. She had resided at Spring Park Apartments, 45 Spring St., until moving to the Springfield area in 1987, and recently had been a resident at Mont Marie Health and Rehabilitation Center in Holyoke. Mrs. Gallese was employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. on Brown Street in her younger years and, before her retirement, by Sprague Electric Co. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a life member of the North Adams Lodge No. 704 Sons of Italy. Her husband, Henry Gallese, whom she married Aug. 29, 1932, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, died Oct. 21, 1985. She leaves two sisters, Sylvia Rosasco Sheehan of North Adams and Dorothy Rosasco Schneider Piaggi of Holyoke, and nephews and nieces, including her caregivers, Sister Maxyne D. Schneider, SSJ, Sister Joan M. Schneider, SSJ, and Sister Jean C. Schneider, SSJ. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary C. Gallese, who died Nov. 11, 1944. Funeral services will take place Friday, Aug. 10, at 12:30 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations suggested for Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund or to St. Anthony Building Fund through the funeral home.
