John Chester Boyd

John Chester Boyd, 54, of 152 Wahconah St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center after a shooting incident at his home. He had been a resident of Pittsfield for 20 years. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Jan. 26, 1947, son of Chester A. Boyd and Barbara Foggan Andrews, he attended Adams schools. Mr. Boyd had been employed in the moving industry for 30 years, working for Mullen Movers as a long-haul driver for 26 years. Following an on-the-job injury, he became the company dispatcher. During his driving career, he earned four safe-driving awards and five professional "courtesy while on the road" awards. He successfully completed the Allied University Driver Training Program in 1998 in Illinois. Previously, he had been employed by F.L. Castine Inc. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling and skeet shooting. He loved his dog, Patches. He and his wife, the former Linda Thomas, were married June 23, 1990. Besides his parents, both of Pittsfield, and his wife, he leaves his stepfather, Raymond L. Andrews Sr. of Pittsfield; a son, Lee Boyd of Schenectady, N.Y.; two daughters, Dawn Boyd of Monroe and Heather Boyd of Adams; a stepdaughter, Donna Harris of Mount Holly, N.J.; three stepsons, Frank and Larry Cotton, both of Pittsfield, and John Cotton of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Raymond L. Andrews Jr. of Pittsfield and Kenneth A. Boyd of California; four sisters, Bonnie A. Demary and Sandra J. Andrews, both of Pittsfield, Linda S. Boulerice of Dalton and Cheryl A. Shoemaker of Coppell, Texas, and 11 grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 11, at 10 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday morning from 9 until 10. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, contributions may be made to the American Liver Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
