Ruth M. Emerson, 95, of 28 Richardson St. died Friday morning at Hillcrest Commons, where she had been a patient since 1996. Born in Adams on May 14, 1906, daughter of Vern and Hattie M. Horton Derosia, she was a 1924 graduate of the former Adams High School and a 1928 graduate of Bishop Memorial School of Nursing. Mrs. Emerson was a registered nurse and worked in private duty for several years. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton, the Cheshire Senior Center, Rebekah Lodge of Adams and the Savoy Homemakers. Her husband, Emery A. Emerson, whom she married in 1936, died May 9, 1967. She leaves a son, Vern A. Emerson of Cheshire, and three grandchildren. Another son, Alvah Emerson, died Jan. 7, 1972. A graveside service will be conducted tomorrow at 1:30 at Cheshire Cemetery by the Rev. William D. Furey. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
