Bertha J. Burr

Bertha Jeannette Burr, 79, of 162 Stoddard Ave. died Tuesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 9, 1921, daughter of Wilfred J. and Anna M. Phoenix Lussier, she attended local schools and was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic High School. She was first employed by General Electric Co. for 15 years and later went to work for the former Pittsfield Kmart for 15 years as a clerk, retiring in 1983. She was a communicant of St. Mary the Morning Star Church and a member of its Family Society. She enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling. Her husband, Everett Burr, whom she married Oct. 15, 1955, died Oct. 13, 1993. She leaves two sons, Thomas E. Burr of Holden and James E. Burr of Pittsfield; two daughters, Roberta A. Burr of Pittsfield and Elizabeth M. Bolognia of Lanesboro, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary the Morning Star Church on Tyler Street, celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurses Association or to St. Mary's Church, both in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by six brothers and three sisters.
