Mary M. Brooks

Mary M. Brooks, 91, of 238 State Road died Tuesday at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown. Born in Yatesville, Pa., on Oct. 23, 1909, daughter of John and Mary Sapko Yesensky, she attended schools in Shenandoah, Pa., and graduated from high school. She also attended business school there. She and her husband, Lindon, moved to North Adams in 1937, when Mr. Brooks became manager of the Newberry store in North Adams. Mrs. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church of North Adams for more than 60 years, and was also a member of its Friendship Club. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for more than 50 years. She was involved in many local blood drives and was a longtime volunteer at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was a nurse's aide. She enjoyed baking. Her husband, Lindon Norwood Brooks, whom she married Feb. 21, 1933, died Aug. 7, 1997. She leaves a daughter, Jane Allen of Williamstown; a sister, Elizabeth Bartnicki of Shenandoah; three granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place Friday morning at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of North Adams. Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the First Baptist Church of North Adams. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased her, John and Joseph Yesensky, and Julia Obzut and Catherine Tobias.
