Marcus McClure

Retired Army Col. Marcus Orral McClure, 65, of 194 Windsor Road died Wednesday morning at home. Born in Montague City on Nov. 1, 1935, son of Marcus F. McClure of Broomall, Pa., and the late Helen Gruszkowski McClure, he graduated from Greenfield High School and from Anna Maria College in Paxton. He enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard in 1952 and rose to the rank of a colonel, which he held until retiring in 1988 after 36 years in the Army Reserve. He was infantry battalion commander for several years at the Adams and North Adams National Guard armories, and received numerous service and achievement awards. Mr. McClure was employed by the former Swift & Co. in Greenfield for 24 years and by Astro Beef in Lanesboro for 10 years. He was most recently employed by Butler Wholesale Products in Adams, retiring last November after 14 years. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and a member of the Adams Post 160 American Legion, Adams Lodge of Elks, and the Polish National Alliance. Besides his father, he leaves two sons, Marcus H. McClure of Springfield and Parrish H. McClure of Savoy; a stepson, Bernard M. Mara of Atlanta; two stepdaughters, Ellen M. Snyder of Dalton and Traci C. Bigelow of Adams; four sisters, Kathleen Carlin of Drexel, Pa., Arlene Jarzyna of Bricktown, N.J., Mary Ann Anthony of Douglas, Wyo., and Deborah McClure of Broomall; his former wife, Elizabeth Rash McClure of Savoy, and 12 grandchildren. A daughter, Rebecca, died in infancy. The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke through the funeral home.
