Candita A. Ferrero

Candita A. Ferrero, 91, formerly of 65 Columbus Ave., Columbia Arms Apts., died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where she was admitted Feb. 24, 1999. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 19, 1909, daughter of John and Madalena Gai Avalle, she attended local schools. Mrs. Ferrero was employed by the former Glix-Brandt Pajama Factory on Fourth Street for 12 years and by GE for several years. She was last employed by Miss Hall's School for five years, retiring in 1962. She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the American Legion Post 68 Auxiliary and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, sewing, playing bingo, gardening and raising flowers. Her husband, Joseph Ferrero, whom she married Nov. 26, 1928, died April 8, 1989. She leaves two daughters, Doris M. Batanglo of Dalton and Norma M. Gardino of Pittsfield; two brothers, Joseph Peter Avalle of Dunedin, Fla., and John Avalle of Silver Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Aug. 21, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Centennial Organ Fund in care of the funeral home. Predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Avalle and Frank Avalle.
