FRIEDA MAKOWER

Frieda Makower, 78, formerly of North Miami, Fla., and Far Rockaway, N.Y., died Saturday at Laurel Lake Center. Born in Brest-on-bug, Poland, on Dec. 24, 1921, daughter of Chaim and Bella Grossman Solomon, she came to the United States in 1938 with her brother, Jack Solomon, to join her father, who was living in New York City. She also resided in Rosedale, Queens, N.Y., most of her life and moved to Laurel Lake a few months ago. Mrs. Makower owned and operated a knitting store in Brooklyn. Her husband, Phillip Makower, whom she married April 13, 1940, in New York City, died April 20, 1993. Besides her brother, of Far Rockaway, she leaves two daughters, Bella Auerbach of Pittsfield and Sandra Kalachman of Huntsville, Ala.; a son, Henry Makower of Brooklyn, and five grandchildren.
