Walter Zdon, 91

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Walter Zdon, 91, of 2 Sterling Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his home. Born in Adams on Aug. 27, 1918, son of Antony and Mary Jzyk Zdon, he attended Adams schools including the former Adams Memorial High School. A Marine veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. Mr. Zdon was employed by the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield in its Power Transformer Division from 1962 until his retirement as a supervisor in 1980. He first worked for the former Hunter Machine Co., now called Morrison Berkshire. He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church. His wife, the former Jeanne A. Allard, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1940, died on Oct. 27, 2006. He leaves two daughters, Judith A. Muldowney and her husband, Graham, of Adams and Jeanne A. Geissler and her husband, Edward, of North Adams; a son, John E. Zdon and his wife, Christine, of North Adams; six grandchildren, Todd McConnell, his primary caregiver, and Tammy Zdon, both of North Adams, Gary McConnell of Ashland, Va., Tracy Munger of Adams, Graham Muldowney of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jamie Zdon of Cheshire; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Miletich, Erica Schnopp and Michael Schnopp, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight siblings, Frances Randall, Veronica Daunais, Josephine Tattersall, Bessie Mohl, Phyllis Ziemlak and Anthony, John and Peter Zdon. FUNERAL NOTICE — A private funeral was held at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial was in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Mass. in care of the funeral home.
