Edward H. Cunningham, 91

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward Harry Cunningham, 91, of 728 East Main St. Extension died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Williamstown Commons. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 17, 1918, son of Edward and Florence Pickave Cunningham, he graduated from the Central Building Trades School in Manhattan, N.Y. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Corps of Engineers and later graduated from Officer Candidate School. He was stationed in Fort Belvoir, Va., until he was transferred to the North Adams Army Depot. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. Mr. Cunningham was employed by the former GE in Pittsfield and then by Ebasco Engineering, traveling extensively for the company throughout the United States, England and South America doing inspections for Ebasco Services on large electrical equipment. An avid sportsman, he enjoying bowling, golf and handball. He was a founder of the North Adams Little League and coached the Elks' team for many years. He was a member and past president of the North Adams Retired Men's Golf League and was a Boston Red Sox fan. He and his wife, the former Ruth Alice McKane, were married on April 14, 1945, in Brooklyn. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, James Cunningham and his wife, Bonnie, of Clarksburg; a daughter, Gail Knotek and her husband, James, of Bend, Ore.; two granddaughters, Katlyn Cunningham and Lisa Cunningham, both of Medford, his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Cunningham of Mitchellville, Md., and nieces and nephews. His brother, Walter Cunningham, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Cunningham will be Monday, March 8, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Williamstown Commons in care of the funeral home.
