Harry J. Duffy, 87

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Harry James Duffy, 87, of 12 Canedy Lane died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on May 2, 1923, son of Ambrose and Edith Brieley Duffy, he attended schools in North Adams. A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served as a private, first class, and received three bronze stars. Mr. Duffy was employed for 35 years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams as a lab technician, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and had served as an Eucharistic minister and altar server for funerals. He was a member of both VFW Post 996 and American Legion Post 125. He also was a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century, Retirees clubs and Gold Card clubs and Northern Berkshire Retires Men's Association. His wife, the former Julia M. Levesque, whom he married in 1951, died Dec. 2, 1984 . He leaves include nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, including his nephew Peter Levesque of Adams. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Taylor, and brothers Joseph, James and Francis Duffy. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Duffy will take place Tuesday, May 25, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Elizabeth's Church in North Adams. Burial with military honor will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, May 24, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Elizabeth's Church through the funeral home.
