Richard J. Benoit, 64

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard J. "Digger" Benoit, 64, of North Adams died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2010, at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on Aug. 31, 1946, a son of Joseph and Marjorie Parmenter Benoit, he attended schools in Clarksburg. Mr. Benoit was a truck driver and construction worker for various companies in the area and was last employed by The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield in the circulation department. He loved fishing, motorcycles and cars, and his beloved dogs Barney and Nala. He leaves his wife, the former Frances Bernardo Slick; two daughters, Laurie Garrafolo of Elmwood, Ill., Lisa Lincoln and her husband, Scott, of Stamford, Vt.; two stepdaughters, Lori Keating and her husband, Patrick, of North Adams and Cheryl Slick; two stepsons, Daniel Slick and David Slick; a brother, William Benoit and his wife, Dorothy, of Sugarland, Texas; two sisters, Margaret Ames of Clarksburg and June Jacobson of North Adams; his mother-in-Law, Ruth Bernardo of North Adams; brothers-in-law Gary Bernardo of North Adams and Wayne Bernardo and his wife, Catherine, of Evergreen, Co.; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Benoit will take place Monday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will Monday morning from 9 to 10:30 at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, Mass. Memorial donations can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in care of the funeral home.

DIGGER
I will miss you alot but i know you are not suffering anymore.I alway thought of you as a uncle.Dad tells me all the crazy stories of the stuff you guys did he also said you and him were like brouthers to each other.You will be missed by everone.I know i will see you agin one day. LOVE LITTLE DAVE
