Homer L. Kurjan

Homer "Joe" Lewis Kurjan, 83, of Kimball Farms died Tuesday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center. He was a former resident of Le Roi Drive in Pittsfield for 36 years. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on July 27, 1918, son of Phillip and Mae Hoffman Kurjan, he attended schools in Youngstown and New York City. He graduated in 1943 from the College of Forestry at Syracuse University. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was first employed by C.H. Dexer & Co. in Windsor Locks, Conn., as manager of Research and Development. From 1962 until his retirement in 1982, he worked at Lee Schweitzer division of Kimberly Clark in the research and development department. He had a love of nature and reading. He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Levinsohn, with whom he celebrated their 57th anniversary on Aug. 17; a son, Michael S. Kurjan of Branford, Conn.; a daughter, Diane K. Blagdon of Baltimore, and a grandson. A son, Peter Kurjan, died in 1991. The date of the memorial service will be announced in the future.
