William P. Toomey, 81
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William P. Toomey, 81, of North Adams died Friday, April 1, 2011, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on July 26, 1929, the son of Dr. William F. Toomey and Margaret Ryan Toomey, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School. He graduated from Marlboro College with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1953 and earned a master's degree in education from North Adams State College.
He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Toomey was an educator for more than 30 years for the city of North Adams and in Readsboro, Vt., retiring in 1984.
He leaves his wife, the former Jacqueline Merrill; a daughter, Carolyn Toomey of Amherst; three sons, David Toomey of Amherst, Daniel Toomey of Putney, Vt., and James Patrick Toomey of Cummington, and a granddaughter, Catherine Angelika Toomey.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Private graveside services for Mr. Toomey will take place at the family plot in Southview Cemetery at a later date.
