Gloria A. Pedrin, 85

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Gloria Ann Pedrin, 85, of Bridge Street died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center. Born in North Adams on April 15, 1926, daughter of Vincenzo and Annie Mancuso Modena, she attended city schools. Mrs. Pedrin was employed by LaValley Oil Co., where she was a dedicated bookkeeper for 49 years. She and her husband, the late Charles Pedrin, operated Pedrin's Golf Course and Driving Range. She and her husband, who died in 1982, had a happy marriage and, in their early years, enjoyed traveling through Europe together. She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and a volunteer at North Adams Regional Hospital. She played bridge at the Harper Center and Williams Faculty Club, both in Williamstown, and enjoyed the friends she made. In true Italian fashion, she was a tremendous cook and loved to bake and share her goodies with friends and neighbors. In all her social circles, she was affectionately known as "the cookie lady." She enjoyed shopping, and everyone benefited from her trips to the outlets. Christmas was always planned years in advance; there could never be too many presents. Mrs. Pedrin lived to see the joy of everyone around her and her giving spirit was unsurpassed, said her family. Her greatest love was her family, for whom she would have done anything. She was a kind, loving and generous grandmother; her son and granddaughter have wonderful memories of summers at her home. She leaves her son, John C. Pedrin of Underhill, Vt., and his partner, Donna; a sister, Viola Ponte of Pennsylvania; her granddaughter, Emma Pedrin of Burlington, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Alice Modena; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, including Norman LaValley and Donald and Mona LaValley, who provided excellent care and support in her later years; and Donna's children Jessica and her husband, Ryan, and Brian, and grandchildren Westin and Harper. She was predeceased by her sisters Theresa LaValley, Angie LaValley and Helen Modena, and brothers James, Albert and Louis Modena. FUNERAL NOTICE - A memorial service for Mrs. Pedrin will be held on Monday morning, May 1, at 11 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247. An interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Monday morning from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

I will always remember Gloria's smiling face as she greeted those who enetered Lavalley's. Good memories like that are what will hopefully sustain those she left behind. God Bless.
