John H. Choquette Sr., 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - John Henry Choquette Sr., 89, of 68 Cherry St. died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at his home.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 20, 1922, a son of Noel and Edwilda Lefevre Choquette, he graduated from the former Notre Dame School and the former Bliss Business College.
A decorated Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant and received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Air Medal and American Theater Ribbon.
Mr. Choquette was a member of Local Carpenter Union 108 and worked for contractors in the area. He also was clerk of the works in the Engineering Department for the city of North Adams from July 1986 to July 2000.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church in North Adams and the former Notre Dame Church. He was a member of the North Adams American Legion and the North Adams Vietnam Veterans Post. He also enjoyed his membership in the McDonald's Coffee Club. He served on the North Adams Planning Board.
He leaves his wife, the former Martha Allard, whom he married on Nov. 11, 1946, in Canada; a daughter, Carol Greenbush and her husband, John, of North Adams; a son, John H. Choquette Jr. and his wife, Leticia, of North Adams; three brothers, Gerald Choquette of New York, Victor Choquette of Lenox and Raymond Choquette of Rhode Island; two sisters, Martha Harris of Pittsfield and Margaret Lampron of North Adams; four grandchildren, Sarah White and her husband, James, Peter Greenbush, Alexis Choquette and Danielle Choquette, and two great-grandchildren, Jordan Greenbush and Jadyn Greenbush.
He was predeceased by his son Peter Choquette on Aug. 27, 1967, and his brother Rolland Choquette.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Choquette will take place Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
