Leona T. Carter

Leona T. Carter, 93, of Riverside Avenue, Rensselaer, N.Y., a former resident of Dalton, died Sunday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y., after a brief illness. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on March 30, 1908, daughter of Earnest and Maude Hill Thomson, she was a graduate of New Lebanon (N.Y.) High School. She had spent much of her younger years in Brainard, N.Y., and Dalton before moving to Rensselaer. She was a graduate of the former Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield and attended College of Saint Rose in Albany. She also had private vocal training for three years. In Dalton, Mrs. Carter was employed by Crane & Co. In Rensselaer, she worked in accounting and as a secretary at Sterling Winthrop Drug Co. for 20 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rensselaer, where she served as a deacon, elder and church treasurer and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Rensselaer AARP, the Senior Citizens and the Uno Club of East Greenbush. Her husband, Everett A. Carter, is deceased. She leaves several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral for Leona Thomson Carter tomorrow at 10 at First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Main Street Cemetery, Dalton. There will be no calling hours. The family has requested that those who wish to remember Leona make contributions to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 34 Broadway, Rensselaer, NY 12144, or to the Rensselaer Ambulance Fund, 901 Third St., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
