Evelyn Stucklen

Evelyn M. Stucklen, 80, formerly of Hinsdale, died Friday at home in North Eastham after a long battle with cancer. From 1947 to 1981, she resided in Hinsdale and North Eastham, moving to North Eastham permanently in 1981. Born in Holyoke on Dec. 6, 1920, daughter of Josiah and Carolyn Lamson Camp and stepdaughter of Mary C. Camp, she was a 1942 graduate of Mount Holyoke College and also earned a master's degree from the former North Adams State College. She served in the Army during World War II. She taught at several Berkshire County schools as a substitute teacher prior to her retirement in 1981. She was an avid homemaker, traveler and gardener. Besides her stepmother, she leaves her husband of 55 years, William L. Stucklen; five daughters, Tisha S. Tench of Kenosha, Wis., Emily K. White of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cynthia R. Murphy of Hinsdale, Marcia S. Middleton of Averill Park, N.Y., and Carla Stucklen of Mount Airy, Md.; three sons, Frederic W. Stucklen of East Windsor, Conn., Kenneth H. Stucklen of Agawam and Paul T. Stucklen of Rochester, Minn.; two sisters, Mary Helen Bradley of Sacramento, Calif., and Joy M. Camp of Melrose; two brothers, J. Holden Camp of Granby, Conn., and Jon E. Camp of South Hadley; 21 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Two sons, Glenn H. Stucklen and Wayne R. Stucklen, predeceased her. A memorial service will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Hinsdale with Michele Cijka, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675 or to First Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, Maple Street, Hinsdale, MA 01235. She was predeceased by a brother, Dix James Camp, on Dec. 17, 1941.
