Joseph J. Barbini

Joseph J. Barbini, 83, of 10 Mountain View Terrace died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after suffering an apparent heart attack at home. Born in Lee on March 14, 1918, son of Agostino and Adolorata Della Fave Barbini, he was a 1936 graduate of Lee High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company E from 1942 until he was discharged in 1947 from the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington from wounds received in combat. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was employed by the Hurlbut Paper Co. in Lee before and after serving in the Army. He retired in 1975 from the Willow Mill of the now Mead Corp. A communicant of St. Mary's Church, Mr. Barbini was a member of the Berkshire Hills Council 314 Knights of Columbus and the Bossidy-Crerear Post 893 VFW in Lee. He leaves his wife, the former Olga T. Faltraco, whom he married Nov. 27, 1947; two sons, Richard J. Barbini of Martha's Vineyard and Gerald J. Barbini of Auburn, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Ambulance Squad or to St. Mary's School in care of the Kelly Funeral Home.
