William D. Emery

William D. Emery, 72, of 8 Cherokee Drive died yesterday morning at home. Born in North Adams on May 2, 1929, son of Richard and Winifred McHugo Emery, he attended North Adams schools, including Drury High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant. He received the Korean Service Medal, three bronze service stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Emery was employed by General Cable Co. in Pownal, Vt., for several years. He also was employed by North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in the buildings and grounds department, retiring in 1995. He worked part time as a bartender at the North Adams American Legion. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and the George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves his wife, the former Dolores Frangipane, whom he married July 4, 1953, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield; two daughters, Cindy DeBlois of Adams and Kelley Emery of Belchertown, and two grandchildren. Funeral Services will take place Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine on Massachusetts Avenue, North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He was predeceased by one sister and four brothers, Anna Anderson, Dr. Robert Emery, James Emery, Richard Emery and John Emery.
