Barbara C. Newman, 78

FLORIDA, Mass. - Barbara C. Newman, 78, of 197 Whitcomb Hill Road died on Friday, June 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by family. Born in North Adams on July 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Agnes Bourelle Malinowski, she graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1950. Mrs. Newman was the longtime librarian for the town of Florida and was instrumental in the relocation of the town library from Town Hall to the public school. She was also the assessor and was a member of the Planning Board at the time of the her death. A devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker, she also was a member of the Council on Aging and an active member in the Florida Senior Center and the Florida Mountain Red Hat Society. Her husband, John A. Newman, whom she married on Jan. 27, 1951, died on Jan 18, 1992. She leaves five daughters, Christine Hurley and her husband, Gerald, of Pittsfield, Susan Crochiere of Lanesborough, Cynthia Bosley and her husband, Ron, Jill Jourdenais and her husband, Francis, and Kathryn Rose Newman Gaspardi, all of Florida; a son, John J. Newman of Florida; a sister, Marlene Boucher of North Adams; a brother, T.J. Malinowski of the state of Florida; four grandchildren, Darren Jourdenais, Veronica Bosley, Amanda Bosley and Zachary Crochiere, and a brother-in-law, Edward Newman. FUNERAL NOTICE - A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Newman will be held Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. from All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Church Cemetery in Florida. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 10, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the Florida Senior Center or the VNA & Hospital of Northern Berkshire.
